During the 2008 ALA Annual Conference in Anaheim, California,External link  Informed Strategies LLC President Judy Luther sat down with Elsevier Senior Communications Manager Kira Cooper to discuss the process involved in evaluating a university's return on investments in its library. As part of an Elsevier-sponsored pilot study with Paula Kaufman at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign during 2007, Judy developed a formula demonstrating how a university's investments in its library yield a 4-to-1 return in grant income to the institution. An artist since childhood and a cardiologist by training, Dr. Machado now serves as a medical illustrator for Elsevier and spoke to an audience of 200 at the 2008 Medical Library Association/Library Connect luncheon hosted by Elsevier.
