Munich, October 31, 2008 – Elsevier, the world-leading publisher of scientific, technical and medical information products and services announced today the launch of
DoctorConsult, an online clinical reference site, in Germany. The internet based product was developed in collaboration with physicians and clinics and provides users with a full range of medical information covering a variety of clinical needs.
In one integrated interface, in German language, users can access evidence-based immediately actionable ‘short answers’ as well as background references such as books and full text journal articles suitable for more in depth research and education needs (detailed answers). DoctorConsult offers up-to-date scientific information that is continuously updated and checked by a team of experts.
“Time for treating patients in the clinics and in practices is becoming more and more precious. With DoctorConsult, targeted and clinically relevant information can be accessed quickly so the search for diagnosis and therapy is shortened,” said Jörg Engelbrecht, Publishing Director, DoctorConsult.
The German navigation and lay-out makes it easy to find operative and non operative content in the user’s native language. DoctorConsult delivers fast search results, sorted by relevance and source, from content sources that include:
- 69 English language journals, including American Journal of Cardiology and spin offs of The Lancet: The Lancet Oncology, The Lancet Neurology, The Lancet Infectious Diseases
- 80 German Elsevier/Urban & Fischer reference works
- 36 English language reference works
- German guidelines
- German pharma and agent database
It’s predicted that most users will use the “quick answer” option, where users can orientate themselves very quickly with the bullet points of information on symptoms, diagnosis and therapy.
Based on the successful
MDConsult platform in the U.S., DoctorConsult is the first of several customized multilingual products from Elsevier that are being launched to meet the cultural needs of users who do not speak English as a first language, and address specific medical practice needs within different countries.
